POLICY ANALYST

Description of Organization:

PAI is a global organization that champions policies that put women in charge of their reproductive health, including access to contraception, and safe and legal abortion. PAI achieves this through a 50+ year presence in Washington, DC, advocating with those who drive policy change, and defend against policies that harm women and girls.

We also make it possible for local civil society organizations throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America, to access the funding, training and partnership they need to achieve policy change in their own local context. We are simultaneously on the front lines and in the background, focused first and foremost on the impact our work has on the lives of women and girls around the world.

Position Responsibilities:
Analytical Research: Execute research functions in assigned topic areas including monitoring trends in the field, scoping new areas of PAI research, collecting and compiling information, producing written analysis with key findings and practical recommendations. This includes conducting original research and analyzing existing data and research. Products include written reports, policy and issue briefs, working papers, concept papers, blogs, and policy advocacy materials with an aim to communicate complex technical issues to a policy and advocacy oriented audience using consistent PAI messaging using consistent PAI messaging

Subject Expertise: Serve as an internal/external resource on assigned topics; respond to requests for information; lead brown-bag discussions, and provide talking points and analysis to staff. Train and support international partners on research analysis as needed; Strategic Planning: Provide technical subject matter expertise and strategic thinking on existing and new areas of PAI’s work including recommendations for opportunities to leverage PAI research and resources for policy-relevant research;

External Representation and Partnerships: Represent PAI using consistent PAI messaging, build strong collaborative partnerships with colleagues in other organizations and coalitions and provide subject matter expertise externally at domestic and international conferences, meetings, events, and coalitions;

Events: Plan, execute and facilitate events and meetings with external and international partners;

Grants Management: Manage small grants process including drafting of request for proposal, vetting and review of proposals, coordinating the award of funding and monitoring and communicating with the grantees;

Editing: Review, edit, fact check, and provide feedback on internal and external research and reports including the work of consultants, as applicable;

Coordination: Coordinate the work of interns, project consultants, and the department as assigned;

Project Management: Participate in the writing of project proposals, monitor budgets, and track outcomes for projects as assigned. May serve a Project Manager as assigned;

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 3+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s degree preferable;
  • Outstanding writing and oral communication skills;
  • Familiarity with U.S. government, United Nations and other global processes relating to sexual and reproductive health;
  • Background in policy analysis and issue advocacy; and demonstrated ability to translate research into compelling and persuasive, issue-oriented information and educational materials;
  • Team player with a sense of humor, collaboration and creativity;
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 30% of the time;
  • Fluency in French and/or Spanish helpful.
