ARHP Statement on FDAs decision on access to Plan B emergency contraception

For Immediate Release
May 1,  2013

ARHP leaders and members are disappointed in yesterdays conditional approval of access to Plan B emergency contraception for women fifteen and older. Although this action is an incremental step in the right direction, it continues to unnecessarily complicate access to Plan B for all women. This decision is not consistent with the latest medical and scientific evidence and contradicts the FDAs 2011 decision that would have approved Plan B for all who need it. The proof-of-age requirement places an undue burden on the many women who do not have this type of identification. We encourage the FDA to approve EC for unrestricted over-the-counter access.
