For Immediate Release
January 14,  2010

WASHINGTON, DC— The Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP), representing more than 12,000 reproductive health care providers, researchers, and educators, is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael A. Thomas has been elected to a two year term as the chair of the ARHP board of directors. Dr. Thomas is a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist and reproductive endocrinologist. He is a professor and the director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Cincinnati’s Center for Reproductive Health. Dr. Thomas is also the director of Reproductive Medicine Research, a clinical trial unit dedicated to women’s health issues.

“I am excited by the opportunity to lead ARHP’s board of directors,” said Dr. Thomas. “ARHP is a fantastic organization that provides critical resources to all members of the reproductive healthcare team. I look forward to helping the organization expand its role in the field during my tenure as board chair.”

Dr. Thomas attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and completed his residency at Wayne State University’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He went on to complete a reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He has been a member of the University of Cincinnati faculty since 1990. Dr. Thomas is a member of a number of professional societies, and has served on the medical board of Planned Parenthood of Cincinnati, and as past chair of the Contraceptive Special Interest Group of American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

“Dr. Thomas is an incredible leader in the field and an active ARHP member. He has helped shape ARHP’s mission and strategic direction as a very involved board member for the past five years, and has guided much of our programmatic work on advisory committees, as faculty for ARHP educational programs, and presenting at our annual conference,” said Wayne C. Shields, president and CEO of ARHP. “I look forward to working on education and outreach with Dr. Thomas over the next two years as he brings his vision to ARHP’s multidisciplinary, multi-specialty position in the field.”
