The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the authority on quality and clinical care across the Federation. The CMO will ensure that medical standards are highly reliable and are followed consistently by all affiliates. S/He will evaluate developments in medical care and make recommendations for new practices and procedures. S/He will also advise Federation leadership on matters impacting patient care. The CMO serves as a visionary, strategic thinker, and national thought leader on clinical issues - both in the Planned Parenthood setting and in the field of women's health broadly. The CMO will help PPFA focus on system administration and will help move PPFA forward in a clinical setting and as a network of healthcare providers. The CMO will be responsible for the overall clinical direction of Planned Parenthood. Moreover, the CMO is responsible for advancing care for women across the globe. Must have proven ability to lead transformation and to challenge PPFA beyond their current structure. Must embody a patient-centered approach to care. Strong understanding of the business of healthcare. ● Provide input, guidance, and feedback to a wide range of PPFA staff about issues related to clinical care, including standards and practices both within PPFA and in the field of women's health. Review strategies and materials, participate in discussions, and provide a strong medical and clinical perspective; ● For long-term projects and extremely short-term needs, provide expertise, guidance, and feedback to PPFA teams on externally-facing work. Serve as primary medical liaison on items related to medical service delivery to other PPFA teams, including policy, advocacy, communications, General Counsel, litigation-law, brand, partnerships, and online; ● Serve as a spokesperson for PPFA on medical issues in a variety of venues reaching a range of audiences, including media, video/multimedia content, speaking engagements, conferences, legislative briefings/testimony, written submissions, and other events; ● Provide medical direction, guidance, and support for the recruitment of affiliate medical directors and for the development of new medical services; ● Collaborate and build strong working relationships with Affiliates Risk Management Services (ARMS), Kaleido Health Services, and Afaxis; ● Identify, collaborate and build strong working relationships with external partners and national care delivery and clinical partners; ● Collaborate with other staff to establish and nurture relationships with other organizations, particularly those that engage diverse women, young people, and people in the medical field. Identify opportunities for programmatic collaboration and attend related events; ● Develop and maintain strong relationships with PPFA divisions and subsidiaries, as well as external partners; and ● Must be a board-certified physician. OBGYN preferred but not required strong system experience in lieu of currently practicing OBGYN Background in primary care, women’s health, population health, or public health sector will be considered.
● More than ten years of directly-related, progressively responsible experience as a physician with experience in management, project management, and supervision; ● Expert, up-to-date medical knowledge, particularly in health care delivery systems; ● Proven ability to build deep and lasting relationships with a variety of internal and external partners, as well as individuals; ● Demonstrated success with innovation and health care integration to advance access, health equity, and quality; ● Impeccable discretion and unflappable approach and behavior, especially in times of crisis or high stress; ● Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner with strong interpersonal skills; ● A sense of urgency necessary to drive change within an advocacy organization paired with the patience to understand that not all demands are equal; ● Ability to see, understand and communicate the big picture as well as translate into actionable next steps; ● Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce, and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is essential; ● Self-starter with a high level of creative initiative; ● Ability to quickly determine which problems and challenges can be resolved independently and those that require the attention of leadership; ● A zest for the mission of Planned Parenthood and the role of health provision and advocacy that translates to an unflinching commitment to exceptional work product; ● Sense of humor; ● Polished presentation skills; and ● Excellent written communication skills.
